Carla earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from MIT and spent a few years in industry developing fluorescence instrumentation. In the Xiao lab, she is characterizing the mechanism of bacterial cell division. Shes uses super-resolution fluorescence microscopy to visualize the structural rearrangements that occur within the cytokinetic ring throughout cell division. Quantitative analyses of these images reveal mechanistic insight into the process of cell division.
